FORKLIFT Has a Voice

FORKLIFT Has a Voice

Once upon a time…..well a few years ago to be exact, the forklift industry was almost unheard of. Nobody knew, nobody cared. As founder of #EGAN, we took it upon ourselves the mission to give our industry a voice. Simply because forklift or forklift parts is such a vibrant industry and known worldwide but unknown in our motherland.

Today we are proud to see the tangible results of our efforts. From the time we received our first entrepreneurship award in 2013 (one of the judges said thank you for telling us the industry’s story), we have a presence and voice thru a variety of media apperance (TV, newspapers, magazines, etc) and we have grown in voice and stature. The marketplace and community in general is beginning to take notice of this industry.

Today we are even invited by one of Malaysia’s upcoming and promiment learning institutions to talk about EGAN, forklift industry and of course entrepreneurship.

Sneak Preview of P-Talk

We consider ourselves very blessed to be where we are as a family, person and business. Though we can lament that we are not 100x better, we should not forget that we could’ve been 100x worse off.

Thus I subscribe to the notion

Be CONTENTED where we are but it does not mean stagnation. Always PUSH and progress. Life is after all a series of progressions

We receive invites to talk regularly but unfortunately due to commitments, we are unable to say yes to many. However it is our belief that sharing is good and this we do regularly thru a variety of ways, namely online. We receive questions from all walks of entrepreneurs, established and new, including variety of industries. We talk, we discuss, we challenge each other.

This coming thursday however is an exciting time for us. We have accepted the invite from one of Malaysia’s leading learning institutions to talk to their students on matters of our industry (forklift), entrepreneurship and life. As the estimated number of attendees run into the hundreds, we are excited by the privilege of being able to impart our values and impacting the young.

A little preview of the presentation with my partner & founder of Celebrity’s Will, Stephanne

Sharing is not about boosting our ego or gaining fame. We believe in the collective building of our young people. So watch out for this blog….we will be sharing more on behind the scenes as it unfolds.

TechShake

Mikshake it is not. Today I had the privilege to be interviewed by 2 amazing young people, who incidentally are the founders of a startup too.

This interview was interesting for 3 reasons:

  1. The interview was done via SKYPE as interviewers are in Philippines while I am in Malaysia
  2. Interview was a story for a media called Techshake, based in Philippines. Techshake specializes in searching out good startups in the South East Asia region and featuring them
  3. Am experienced being interviewed for an established business but this is the first (fingers crossed more to come) as the owner of a startup

Millionaire Dollar smiles. Great attitudes

The interview was overall very light hearted but serious sharings, covering topics ranging from

  • Stories about our new startup SparePartsAsia aka SPA
  • Why SPA
  • Experience as an entreprenur
  • Challenges and Failures
  • Advice to new entrepreneurs
  • Special rituals as an enrepreneur
  • etc etc etc

As the saying goes, when you are enjoying yourself, time flies. The entire interview took a little more than 50minutes but was indeed a productive time spent.

I wish Fatima and Paolo the very best in their entrepreneurship journey. If you cannot remember anything about our conversation, just remember this #CHARACTER. Build a character that would enhance your success and more importantly contain your success.

My Journey

We are drawing near to the conclusion of 2014 and commencement of 2015. Many in facebook are posting their Memories of 2015. Seeing the pics of the many has triggered my personal memories….but not of 2014 alone, rather it’s about my entrepreneurial journey.

The entrepreneurial journey I am referring to is my forklift parts distribution business. Of all the businesses I have dabbled with, this business is the most challenging and fearsome. Never have I felt this helpless and fearful. The biggest contributing factor was the fact that the nature and culture of the business and industry as a whole was a complete stranger to me and opposite of all that I know or experienced.

To step into this business is truly a step of faith. I had tried my utmost best to flee from this business/industry but as hard as I tried, I didn’t go far. After 2 years of struggle, I received an impression in my heart. It was the little voice of my Lord Jesus. He asked me why is it that I flee? I had always been interested in businesses at a young age but this business and industry struck so much fear in me that it was overwhelming. To summarise my experience with my Lord’s question, he showed me the other side of the coin and that opened my heart to be more receptive.

Acceptance is easier said than done considering the amount of fear I had. The night before I stepped into the business, I was blessed with a vision. The vision showed me standing in a valley surrounded above by my many competitors. These “competitors” are seasoned industry peers who would take the path “by hook or crook” for business sake. Then Jesus spoke…. “See the people above there? I tell you now that you are to never harm them, not even a strand of hair”. I woke up with a WOW! Logic says that in such a dream, the most probable message is not to be afraid for I will be protected. However the message I received was completely different and much more powerful. Me, standing in a valley surrounded by the many aggressive peers are told not to harm them. The entire message is telling me:

1. I will not only survive in the business but prosper and grow in strength
2. No harm will come upon me whatever my peers attempt
3. In my strength and victory in coming future, I am to exercise grace and mercy. Retaliation is not an option

Today, after years of being in the business, I have encountered countless number of challenges, sometimes almost overwhelmed and yet I continue to grow. I have even received entrepreneurial awards and being interviewed by media such as:

1. Prestige Top40 Under40 Young Achievers Award
2. Prestige Top40 Under40 People’s Choice Award
3. Full feature in MillionaireAsia Magazine under Rising Star segment. This magazine is a very exclusive magazine catering only to the super high net worth market
4. Interviewed by a TV business media in FaceTime with CEO

I take not for granted my journey especially my Lord Jesus’s favor, teaching, encouragement and blessings. To Him I give all the glory.
